For better or for worse, the recall election is going to happen, and it won't be any cheaper, in terms of money or other resources, to retain Davis than it would be to boot him out. If the past few years are any indication, it would be far more expensive to keep him, even if he doesn't renege on his half-hearted promise not to make taxpayers fund his campaign. As to voting for someone else in 2006, that's a given. If Gray Out survives the recall, he'll be termed out by then anyway. The question is whether the state can really afford to wait that long. Waste of money or no, that’s a sunk cost now.
