Can You Feel the Love Tonight

Filed under:   by Xrlq @ 7:42 pm

I haven’t figured out yet whether this “I Love Gov. Davis” site, which I found at Rough and Tumble, is for real, or if it is some kind of parody site. It appears to be a paid ad, so I have to assume that the humor is unintentional. Enjoy the laughs either way.

MEChA Hair-Splitting

Filed under:   by Xrlq @ 7:09 pm

Apparently, a new meme is circulating among MEChA apologists, to the effect that conservatives shouldn’t be upset about the phrase “por la raza todo, fuera de la raza nada” because it is a “slogan,” not their motto. Say what? Am I missing something really deep, or are the Bustamante boosters trying to outdo Bill Clinton’s infamous “meaning of is” nonsense? Is there any meaningful difference between a “slogan” and a “motto,” which somehow makes the former more benign than the latter? If not, why are the Cruz Boosters so keen on this supposed distinction?

Arnold’s Latest Opponents

Filed under:   by Xrlq @ 3:13 pm

Here’s another reason to support Arnold Schwarzenegger’s run for governor: the Ditzy Dixie Chicks oppose him. Singer/political analyst Emily Robison put it thusly:

He is a great film star. But I find his idea to run for governor absolutely insane.

We Todd did.

In Defense of Orange County

Filed under:   by Xrlq @ 12:53 pm

By now you’ve probably read about David Shoutyh Hwang and Sheila Sikat, the newlywed couple from Rancho Santa Margarita, CA who were recently charged with multiple counts of sexual molestation and a single count of torture of an adult, all captured on videotape. Between this high profile case, last year’s kidnap-murder of Samantha Runnion, and the more recent attack on a group of Marines in San Juan Capistrano, Orange County probably doesn’t look like a very safe place to be.

Licenses for Illegals

Filed under:   by Xrlq @ 12:17 pm

Mickey Kaus suggests that the solution to the illegal aliens problem may be to separate the functions of driver licensing and identification by issuing driver licenses to illegals but also having the federal government issue a national ID card. Kaus asks rhetorically whether such a proposal would diminish support in the Latino community for driver licenses for illegals, or whether it would be “a good idea for an Austrian whose father was a Nazi to make this somewhat authoritarian and un-American proposal.”

I think it would be a bad idea for Arnold to propose such a thing, but not for the reasons Kaus suggests.

Beer Impairs Judgment

And Then There Were 132

Peter Unterroth Ueberroth has just bowed out of the race (hat tip: Prestopundit). Looks like the Fresh Potatoes campaign worked. Or maybe John and Ken’s, I don’t know.

Memo to Tom, Arnold: Peter’s withdrawal was long overdue, but we still have one too many Republicans in the race. One of you had better drop out soon, or come October 8 we may all be living in Aztl

If you live in Southern California and are looking for a dog, you might want to consider Knicks, a female lab/pit mix whose owner loves her but can’t keep her. I’ve reproduced the flyer below. You can also contact the owner by email at timel@socal.rr.com.

Half Full, Half Empty, or Splunge?

Filed under:   by Xrlq @ 12:09 am

The latest Field Poll shows Cruz “N-Word” Bustamante with a 5 point lead over Arnold. My first reaction was “oh crap, I can’t believe the Governator is slipping like that!” My second was “Gee, whiz, MEChA-Man’s chief opponent just skipped a friggin’ debate, and a five-point lead is still the best Mr. N-Word can do. What will happen next month when he actually has to debate the guy?”

Meanwhile, the same poll indicates that Bustamante holds a whopping 17-point lead over the other Republican candidate in the race, Tom McClintock. The implication could scarcely be clearer: Arnold should drop out now and support Tom McClintock.
