I Guess He Didn’t Admire Adolf Too Much

Filed under:   by Xrlq @ 11:50 am

Via the Angry Clam comes this story (German language) reporting that Arnold Schwarzenegger joined forces with a bunch of anti-Nazi punks in 1964 to bust up a rally by pro-Nazi punks. Here’s a quick and dirty Enlgish translation of the article:

Magazine: Schwarzenegger Disrupted Neonazi March in Graz in 1964

(AFP) According to a Jewish magazine, Arnold Schwarzenegger, as a teenager helped disrupt a Neonazi rally in his native Austria. As the magazine “NU” reported in its September issue, the 17-year-old Schwarzenegger helped some anti-fascists disrupt a Neonazi demonstration. Octogenarian Alfred Gerstl told the magazine that Schwarzenegger, as a body builder, had acted along with a group of other strong young boys against the right wingers. Gerstl, who was once an active supporter of the conservatives in Austria, claims to know Schwarzenegger from the time when Arnold was a friend of his son Karl.

Then again, Arnold’s nazi lovin’ was later on, so maybe some of the rally made an impression on Herr Schwarzenegger.

LOL, David on TV concerend about Arnold’s comments about Hitler.

Poor guy, he’s reduced to running against a non existing issue, a dead dictator and a dead phylosophy.

    He deserves to be fired.

    Yeah sure.

Was it? The interview in question was in 1975, but it was in the past tense. Maybe he admired Hitler when he was 3 and his Dad read him Nazi bed time stories, but he burned out on the stuff sometime before he turned 17.

I will say, though, that this whole Nazi tempest/teapot was a Godsend for Arnold, as it quickly drew attention away from the issue that had legs (so to speak).

Google Translation Bot comes pretty close…but with a Terminator-like twist:

Magazine: Schwarzenegger blew up 1964 in Graz neo-Nazi marching-up

(AFP) According to a Jewish magazine Arnold Schwarzenegger helped as a young person to blow up a marching-up of neo-Nazis in its Austrian homeland. As the magazine “NU” reported in its expenditure for September, the 17-jaehrige Schwarzenegger helped anti-fascists at that time to disturb a demonstration from neo-Nazis to. Schwarzenegger proceeded 1964 as Bodybuilder as well as other strong young in Graz against rights, said the 80-year old Alfred Gerstl the magazine. Gerstl, once for the conservative ones in Austria actively, knows Schwarzenegger according to own data from the time, when this was a friend of his son Karl.

Good God. First the man is against food; now he’s against rights, too. Where will it end?

  7. boifromtroy Says:

I would say this definitely shows Arnold is against the First Amendment…

  8. McGehee Says:

I don’t know about Austria, but in Germany pro-Nazi speech is specifically outlawed.

    First Amendment? Was ist das?

  10. Dean Esmay Says:

I frankly think most of this will redound positively on Arnold.
