More Info on Spyware

Filed under:   by Xrlq @ 11:53 am

Suzi, a frequent commenter on this blog, has forgotten more than I’ll ever know about spyware/scumware/etc. She’s alerted me to a few sites everyone interested in the topic should know about - and if you aren’t interested in this issue, you should be. I’ll probably have more to say about them later, but for now, I’m just going to throw the links out there for your perusal.

Do you use Ad Aware? I usually do a scan once a week and still find spyware hidden on my pc…

  2. Xrlq Says:

That’s been my experience as well, but then again, I frequently forget to turn on Ad-Watch.

If you get SpywareBlaster and SpywareGuard, they will keep you from getting most spyware and junk.

Also Spybot Search & Destroy finds some things that AdAware does not find, and it has an immunize feature that also protects from spyware getting in.

    They are all free.

Good advice about SPYWARE and how to fight it. The Bear Flag League has joined the fight, and a posting…

The free version of Ad-Aware doen’t run in the background — it’s only a scanner not an active barrier. For the complete version, which blocks spyware and spycookies, you need to pay $30 or so.

SpywareGuard (free) runs in the background and prevents hijacking and downloading of unfriendly active x controls. SpywareBlaster (free) blocks spyare and spycookies. I use both and have not gotten any bad stuff for a long time. Also Cookie Wall from AnalogX gives you complete control of cookies. Another great little program that runs in the background and uses little resources.
