A Slap in the Face
Once again, the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals has slapped Josh Ryen in the face by halting the scheduled execution of Kevin Cooper, who murdered his family when he was eight and slit his throat. We’ve seen this jockeying before, with Robert Alton Harris and others, not to mention their attempt to disenfranchise the State of California last fall. May the real court save us from ourselves before this monster dies of old age.
UPDATE: Justin Levine of Calbog has more on the far-fetched theories of Kevin Cooper’s supposed innocence.

Kozinski was one of the 9. Damn it, I want to hate him so bad, but I can’t, because he’s awesome.
Side note #1: Bybee was one of the two who voted against this. This is the first time I’ve seen him in a decision. Cool.
Side note #2: the “1″ in the “2-1″ is a Senior Judge appointed by John Fucking Kennedy.

I don’t know much about the facts of the case, and I haven’t read the decision. And I admire Kozinski.
But Jeepers Creepers, the guy does look guilty as hell from the news reports I’ve seen.
If we can really clear this up in two weeks, then, what the hell. I doubt it’ll go that quick.
And I don’t trust the Supremes anymore, not after last term.

D’oh! Don’t know where that extra “e” came from.
