This political quiz has been bouncing around the Internet a lot lately. Now it’s my turn.

I Did Not Know That (But I’ll Bet DMOE Claims That He Did)

Eugene Volokh alerts us to a movement in Rhode Island to change its name to “Rhode Island.” According to 50States.COM, the state’s real name is “Rhode Island and Providence Plantations.”

According to the same source, it appears that California’s full name isn’t “California,” either, but rather, “California Find Yourself Here.”

More on the Non-Existent Link Between Saddam Hussein and Al-Qaeda

Move along, people. Nothing to see here. We all know Saddam Hussein had absolutely, positively nothing to do with international terrorism. Except maybe those Palestinian splodeydopes he funded, but that doesn’t count since they only killed joos. What matters is, apart from attempting almost daily to shoot down our planes, ordering a hit on a former U.S. President, etc., what did Saddam Hussein’s government ever do to us?

At long last, the L.A. Times has finally come out in support of the recall. Where are Rick Hasen and the ACLU when Chavez needs them?

Yawner of the Day

Matt Drudge links to a Bloomberg story with a headline (both Drudge’s, and that of the linked article) that sounds pretty impressive:

Schwarzenegger Is Most Popular Governor Since 1991, Poll Says

Most popular since 1991? Wow! That’s longer than, like, a decade! Of course, it becomes a bit less impressive when you consider that we’ve only had three governors from 1991 through now. Less impressive still when you consider that one of these three is Schwarzenegger himself, and another is the clod that he replaced last fall, Gray Davis. That leaves one other governor, Pete “Mr. Charisma” Wilson, who was less popular than Arnold Schwarzenegger. Stop the presses!

Notwithstanding his bad headline, I was tempted to give Drudge two cheers for the fact that it was (1) mostly someone else’s fault, and (2) only misleading, not false. After reading the story more carefully, however, even that might be too generous. According to the article, Governor George Deukmejian, who served from 1983 to 1991, was more popular at his peak (72% approval rating in 1985) than Schwarzenegger is now (65% now). However, the story does not say what Deukmejian’s approval rating was like during the final week of his tenure, which was the first week of 1991. [Wilson was inaugurated on January 7, 1991.]

My First and Last Post About the Wonkettonienne

Filed under:   by Xrlq @ 8:50 pm

Bimbloggers Wonkette and Washingtonienne, also known as the female Beavis and Butthead duo, have been in the news a lot, ever since Washingtonienne, whose real name is Jessica Cutler, was outed by Wonkette, whose real name is Ana Marie Cox:

Heh, heh. I said “cox.” Heh, heh.

Boalt Update

Any Boalt residents or alumni who, unlike this idiot, actually like the idea of free speech, academic freedom and/or the rendering of competent legal advice, should seriously consider signing this petition. Hat tip: Juan Non-Volokh.

UPDATE: The petition has been moved.
