WASHINGTON (Reuters) – Former U.S. Vice President Al Gore on Thursday accused President Bush of telling “an artful and important lie” soon after the Sept. 11 attacks to set the stage for war on Iraq.

I did something similar, more of an Icon, at http://sharpmarbles.stufftoread.com/archive/2004/06/25/292.aspx

I really don’t see the attraction to this image — the brownshirts were truly awful people. I’m willing to bet that the Kevin Drums of the world hang this around our necks pretty quickly.
Surely there could be something more creative that doesn’t arguably glorify Naziism.

That’s what I was aiming for. I was 50/50 on if I really wanted to do it because, yes, the term brownshirts is a Nazi relic, but that’s what Gore was saying- that anyone who thought that the media should be fair and truthful was using the same tactics as the Nazi machine.
So I opted for the ‘icon’ aspect to hopefully lower the connection but still maintain the spotlite on the asshole who called me a Nazi!

Kevin: I don’t think the image “glorifies” anything. I’m not sure it’s even possible to lampoon Al Gore’s idiotic reference to “digital brownshirts” without making any reference to the real ones.

I was thinking more like this

Bo-ring. OTOH, I could settle for a picture of Al Gore himself wearing a brown shirt, coupled with a speech balloon reminding us that he created the goddamned Internet.
