Censor and MoveOn™
If MoveOn.org hasn’t hit the bottom yet, it wasn’t for a lack of trying. In a single, 30-second ad, they exhume the tired “Bush was AWOL” lie, impugn the credibility of almost all swiftboat veterans whose last names aren’t Kerry, and call on President Bush to invoke powers he doesn’t have and “Take that ad off the air.” The only thing they forgot to do was accuse Bush of stealing the 2000 election and allowing 9-11 to occur. Funny-money quote:
Asked why Bush should be responsible for an ad by an independent group with the same legal status as MoveOn, Eli Pariser, the PAC’s executive director, said: “They’re clearly a surrogate organization. The Bush campaign has a responsibility for what’s being done on its behalf. Certainly if Kerry felt MoveOn was doing something he didn’t agree with, he has every right to condemn our ads.”
Which, thus far, he hasn’t, as Mr. Pariser (whose surname is German for “condom”) effectively acknowledges by his use of the subjunctive. Is this an admission that MoveOn is is just a surrogate organization for the Democrat Party, too? How about the L.A. Times?

Moveon, always good for a chuckle. Bush has called for cessation of all such ads.

Does this mean that by his silence, Kerry supports the notion that Bush = Hitler?

The only difference between MoveOn, Moore, and the rest and SBVFT is that one unofficial surrogate group has been criticized by its party’s official surrogate (McCain), while the other (Moore) probably hugged its party’s surrogate (Daschle), and was received to a standing ovation.

Bush blasted to disavow Swiftboat ad, but…
… will Kerry be likewise be pressed to denounce MoveOn.org? Don’t hold your breath. And how’s this for chutzpah: Asked why Bush should be responsible for an ad by an independent group with the same legal status as MoveOn, Eli…
