Bullets and Brains
I used to think that a bullet had to actually penetrate someone’s skull in order to cause brain damage. Not any more. There are just too many examples of people saying incredibly stupid things when the topic shifts to firearms. Examples:
- While gun rights improved today in 43 states and remained the same in 6 others, our action hero governor cum girlyman bucked that trend by signing AB 50, which will prohibit high end rifles that are almost never, if ever, used in crimes.
- Meanwhile, John Kerry, one of two individuals who stand a chance to be President of the United States of Friggin’ America, decried the fact that law-abiding terrorists, assuming such rare birds exist, can now purchase non-automatic firearms with bayonet lugs, flash suppressors, pistol grips, or maybe even all three. OK, OK, so they still have to check these weapons, declared and unloaded, before boarding any flights. Details, details.
- At the same time, Eleanor Holmes Norton of the District of Columbia,* decried that:
“I have just learned that the House will shortly schedule an up-or-down vote to repeal all our local gun safety laws’
What? Congress is going to actually vote on something? Horrors.
President Bush, who promised to support an effective assault weapons ban four years ago, would apparently allow the unlawful purchase and use of such weapons even in the nation’s capital.”
Obviously, Ms. Norton is a bit unclear on the concept, so allow me to explain. First, it’s not up to President Bush to allow, or disallow, the House to vote up, down or sideways on any issue. That’s the House’s call. Second, if the bill does pass the House, it then has to go to the Senate. If it passes there, too, and the President ultimately signs it, it will then allow the unlawful purchase of … what, exactly?
*Notwithstanding their similar names and the obvious parallels between Columbia B.S. and the District of Columbia, it is widely believed that the two entities are not in fact related.

Arnold signed AB50? Fuck.
Is there a grandfather clause? I know I’ll have to take out a gigantic loan, but I’m going to go buy one of those rifles then if I can get one in pre-ban.

That’s what I heard; haven’t been able to find a link yet. If I were you, I’d stick it out and just get the hell out of California when you graduate. Why deal with it anymore, when the rest of the country is moving in the right direction?

All the big-name firms that pay LOOT are here (or in similarly gun-wussy areas like NYC, DC, or Chicago). I only have a few years where I’m willing to suck up their BS for said loot, and therefore need to make the most of them.
I’m thinking that a trip down to Orange County to visit these guys is in order.

NYC, Chicago and DC are much worse than L.A., so maybe scrounging for your .50 BMG now is a good idea. I’m pretty sure ammo will be banned, as well, so be sure to stock up on that, too.

Someone should ask M(r)s. Norton exactly why DC’s (violent, no less) crime rate is so bad, with some of the most “protective” gun laws in the nation.
Her answer would doubtless be informative, or at least amusing.
