Baby Xrlq Update
As I blogged the other day, Baby Xrlq entered the world as planned on Wednesday, October 6, 2004. At least, that part was planned. Some things weren’t planned, such as Mrs. X getting four attempted epidurals, none of which actually did anything. Also unplanned was for Baby X’s umbilical cord to be tied in a knot which, thank God, never tightened; it could easily have killed him in the womb if it had. Shortly after I cut such cord, I was given a wrist band identifying me as the father. While placing it on my wrist, the nurse inadvertently pinched me, causing me to say “ouch.” For some reason, Mrs. X took exception to “ouch.”
Several pics have been taken, but remain in my camera, which Mrs. X still has at the hospital. Here’s one my sister took on her cell phone:

Many thanks to all the well-wishers who have linked, commented or emailed. My apologies for not being able to respond to each individually.
UPDATE: More photos here.

Congratulations! I’m so glad that everything went well, (for the most part). About a month ago, I was looking to see if you’d blogged about baby Xrlq and didn’t see anything recent and was concerned.
All the best to you and your family.

When junior was born, her umbilical cord was wrapped around her neck four times (the doctor said one wrap is quite common and not that threatening but she’d never seen four before, which if junior had “dropped” would have killed he).
The odd thing is that my wife gave birth one week early. She went for a checkup prior and the doctor noted no change so inducement had to be done. She told the Mrs. to pick a date, one being the due date and one being a week early. Good thing she picked the day that was a week early or the umbilical situation would have killed junior.
Small decision, big consequence.
Congrats and glad all is well.
