Neal’s Nonsense
Add “libertarian” Neal Boortz (hat tip: Jody Neel) to the list of morons who know squat about pit bulls but think they are qualified to comment anyway. Maybe we should ban the public expression of stupid, uninformed opinions, instead.
Between this guy and yesterday’s moron, the Non-Liberal Morons are gaining on the Liberal Morons faster than Patterico is gaining on He Who Shall Not Be Voted For.
UPDATE: Uncle has more.

Otherwise upstanding people are filed under “morons” and “scum(!)” if they offend on the subject of pit bulls?!

Hmm, by similar reasoning to Boortz, we should ban all handguns, too, as they’re inherently dangerous. Indeed, some people have been killed from accidental firearm discharge… and to prevent more of these deaths, no firearms should be allowed near people, much less children.
But back to reality. The pit bulls I’ve actually met are some of the friendliest dogs I’ve known… but then, they didn’t have assholes for owners. If pit bulls are outlaws, only outlaws will have pit bulls. And you can be pretty sure that these dogs will be abused.

Clark, you’re right that “scum” was over the top. I’d dropped that category. I stand by the morons part. It’s not so much the fact that he offended on this topic, as his eagerness to express a forceful opinion on a subject he clearly knows nothing about. Trust me, there are a gazillion issues I’m as ignorant about as Boortz. I just don’t weigh in on them, because I know my opinions on them would be worthless.
BTW, this is not the first time Boortz has made an ass of himself. A couple of years back, Bill O’Reilly complained about a Georgia school that still has segregated proms. The school doesn’t officially sanction them, so they are technically legal, but O’Reilly felt the governor should make a statement condemning them. Boortz went on the show and babbled about freedom of association, as if to suggest anyone had a “right” not to be criticized by a governor.
Between that and this, Boortz is officially a moron. Not scum, but definitely a moron. I wouldn’t go any easier on a liberal who spewed crap like that, so why cut this guy any breaks? If anything, I’d be inclined to go easier on the liberal. They’re supposed to be wrong.

I see a lot of criticizm, on a few blogs, but not constructive criticizm. And the solution is????
December 10th, 2004 at 3:36 pm
Bruce, I can’t answer your question about the solution, without first knowing what the problem is. The biggest problem by far with pit bulls is one of public ignorance about the breed, not with the breed itself. The case Boortz refers to could just as easily have happened with a dog of any other medium to large breed.

Boortz is generally a good guy, with a fair libertarian look at things. This actually surprised me. That “It’s in their blood line” nonsense just leads me to think that he doesn’t know much about dogs… or biology or genetics. Sadly, it’s a stereotype that many Americans believe.
