   I can’t see myself ever cutting off my daughter (who’s a few months older than Xrlq jr) emotionally like that even if she went on a shooting spree. But I’m not sure what’s wrong with cutting off her tuition at Brown. Why should Keyes finance her continued radicalization and underwrite her further estrangement from the family? What obligation does he have to keep his daughter immersed in a climate hostile to his values?

   She’s nineteen. Living on her own for a while might disabuse her of her radical politics and her plans to be a professional activist.

   Of course he is under no legal obligation to continue paying her tuition; he’s just a prick not to. If he didn’t want his daughter to think for herself, he never should have sent her to college in the first place.

   Also, aside from being morally bankrupt, cutting off one’s kid’s college education for holding radical views is dumb even as a political strategy. Plenty of people, myself included, held radical left wing views when they were 19, and eventually grew out of them later. By confirming his daughter’s worst stereotypes about conservatives, and by deliberately isolating her from the few people she was close to who didn’t share them, the older (but not wiser) Keyes has done about all can to cement the radical views she probably would have otherwise grown out of in a year or two.

   If he wanted his daughter to think for herself, he shouldn’t have sent her to Brown in the first place.

   Anybody would think they were a commie sodomite if they’d grown up with Keyes as a father, so her “liberal” self-identification is pretty suspect. She opposes abortion, loves her parents, supported Alan Keyes for the U.S. Senate, and – according to her blog – cries during Mass; yeah, I’m sure she’ll fit right in at Democratic Underground. Besides, when you’re 19, anarcho-communism and it’s logical kissing cousin, peace, are the answers to all the world’s problems. Like, duh, why hasn’t anybody thought of this before!

   Hell, in the long run it’s probably best for her that she’s free of that nuthouse. Sad to see though that Mrs. Keyes is apparently just as deranged as her husband.

   Nels can speak for himself, but FWIW I don’t think his point was that liberals don’t love their parents, so much as young radical firebrands, like cult members, disown their parents when conversion fails. Based on his comments, it seems Maya Keyes may be a bit left of center generally, and far to the left of Alan Keyes, but not far left in general. Of course, if she’s really anti-abortion, many left-liberals wouldn’t count her as liberal at all.

   And the funny thing is that the man is not even a true conservative, but being so far to the right, Alan Keyes is a Fascist! He is nothing but a real-life Clayton Bigsby, a chocolate-covered Jesse Helms! A classic example of a race traitor!
