I think you misunderstand something. If the president can’t do somthing, its not the same as saying he will be punished for doing it. It just means he won’t be able to do it.

Maybe you meant something other than impunity. Maybe you meant ‘without oversight’ or ‘subject to no review.’ In that case it seems like you’re being rather thick-skulled. People say he has done that, and that he claims to be able to do that, but they don’t want him to do that.

So liberals certianly don’t claim he has the plenary powers to do this. Thats the entire basis of their argument: that he is doing something he doesn’t have the power to do.
