How many industries can you name that ask the government to tax them, and the government says no?
UPDATE: This story is doubly silly given that the same legislature also considering a tax on strippers, (h/t: Reason) who don’t want to be taxed. I guess the only things that are really certain in life are death and unwanted taxes.

Maybe there’s something to this, I mean remember it’s all the rich people clammoring to keep the estate tax right? It’s almost like reverse psychology works. By the way, I hear the AMT is a really great tax.

I remember hearing somewhere that when the federal income tax was first enacted, proof that you owed any was a status symbol. Don’t know if that’s history, folklore or, I suspect, some combination of the two.
