We got Sirius back when it was commercial free and XM wasn’t, but I guess that isn’t the case anymore. We still have Sirius and still love it. We especially love that we can listen to it online/streaming at teh computer.

I always assumed they were approximately equal. My guess would be that the differences are similar to those of satellite television services, with them offering slightly different selections of channels and content with basically the same core.

Of course, I own neither so I could be entirely wrong.

Sirius has G. Gordon Liddy and NRA News.

    XM doesn’t.

XM has baseball, while Sirius has football; if you like out-of-market teams, this may be a deciding factor.

My sense is that in terms of music, they’re fairly interchangeable unless you have a niche interest that one service does better than the other. Look at the lineups and see which one’s better for you.

FWIW, I have XM and love it, though I don’t drive as much as I used to so I don’t benefit as much as I did in the past.

The big difference is the sports. If you want the NFL games, Sirius is the only game in town.

GGLIddy is a nice bonus. And the music selections are very broad.

  6. Kevin Murphy Says:

XM is a much healtier company — Sirius has hocked itself to the hilt with Stern and other high-cost talent, and may not survive as a result. Big gambles.

Then again, Sirius may have more interesting programming as a result.

XM’s hardware seems more robust, and reached the market a year ahead of Sirius, which had significant problems. XM has more birds up.

In the end, it comes down to price and content, and you’ll just have to figure that out for yourself.

  7. the Pirate Says:

    Sirius, I own stock.

  8. Phelps Says:

    XM, no Stern.

  9. The Lonewacko Blog Says:

    I don’t get either, but:

    1. XM is now the exclusive sat. outlet for Air America.
    2. Sirius wouldn’t let BoreAmerica.com join their affiliate program for some unknown reason.
