More ReasonTMable Idiocy
Reason reminds me once again why I no longer subscribe to their magazine by offering a list of “libertarian legal experts” who, the author later admits, are deemed libertarian because they are “all libertarians in whole or in part.” Do you know anyone who isn’t?!
Among the “libertarian in part” champs is Nat Hentoff, who proudly announces that his favorite Supreme Court Justices of all time are William O. Douglas and William Brennan, as “Both were champions of the Bill of Rights, and we are Americans because of the Bill of Rights,” mere seconds after noting that he’d like to see anti-gun activist Jack Weinstein appointed to the U.S. Supreme Court. Presumably Hentoff meant to say we are Americans because of some parts of the Bill of Rights. Gotta love those liberatarians-in-part; at least they won’t take all of your rights away.

For a long-time member of Manhatten’s hippist liberal circles, Hentoff ain’t bad. He actually dared to use his column in the Village Voice to suggest that the people of Iraq are better off becaus the US got rid of Saddam.

Not saying he’s bad, just that he doesn’t fit under any definition of “libertarian” that doesn’t include about 98% of his countrymen.
