No Good Deed…

Filed under:   by Xrlq @ 4:06 pm

You know, it sure is a good thing that John Roberts donated some of his free time to help some far-left attorneys win a pro-gay-rights case a few years ago. If he hadn’t, they might, like, oppose him.

UPDATE: Gay bloggers do better.

No good deed goes unpunished? This reminds me of the Harry Truman quote that went someting like this “If you want a friend in Washington D.C. get a puppy.” There was no way Roberts was going to get the gay rights support for the Supreme Court. Remember, there has to be a fight because that is how the left raises money. If the Democrats don’t create a fuss, who’s going to mail them MILLIONS of $$$$$$$$? Similarly the gay rights organization need to keep their funding up. Also there is just plain partisanship. “He’s their guy not OUR guy.” The only thing Roberts may have purchased with his actions is a slightly less venomous opposition. But only slightly less. The Supreme Court Justice nominee fights are going to be entertaining political theatre, revealing the ignorance of many if not most Senators and revealing very little about the nominees. I worry about what Roberts will be like in 2012. The worst judges have come from Republicans–Earl Warren by Ike, Stevens by Jerry Ford, Soulter and Kennedy by Bush.Even O’conner by Reagan was not so good. If Roberts is defeated, I’m not sure I would be too down hearted. The other potential nominees may be more committed conservatives–or not. Talk about buying a pig in a poke. These nominations are a gambler’s delight and a president’s nightmare. And if it goes wrong, you and I get to blame Bush. And if by chance everything works out well we’ll all say that the 2004 election was the cause. There’s no upside for Bush, only downside.

    Did they say “mortal danger?”

No, mortal danger is AIDS in the gay community which is on the rise because gays think they are safe thanks to the drug cocktails, mortal danger is the rampant use of meth in the gay community, mortal danger is the spread of other stds like syphilis.
