Et Tu, OC Register

Filed under:   by Xrlq @ 12:42 pm

Dena Burns of the the Dog Trainer’s normally sensible neighbor to the south, O.C. Register, delivers a doozy on the Roberts confirmation battle.

In one memo, he questioned whether it was discrimination for women to be paid 59 cents for every dollar men earned.

This is technically true, but about as misleading as it gets. The memo in question was not about the same pay for the same work, but about the infamous “comparable worth” proposal that would have resulted in massive wage and price controls aimed at “balancing” perceived discriminations not between individual men and women, but between traditionally male and traditionally female professions that required similar levels of education, but which were otherwise not “comparable” in any way, shape or form. Moreover, the whole idea of “comparable worth” is so goofy and so thoroughly discredited that no one seriously advocates it anymore. Yet, while our own Senator Feinstein – allegedly the more sensible of the two – would not dare propose a comparable worth bill on the Senate floor, that doesn’t stop her from bashing a judicial candidate for also not supporting the concept.

I want to see age discrimination addressed. Why do 35 year old employees make so much more than 22 year old employees? Discrimination.
