Small Cloud: Overzealous legislators in Georgia, Indiana, Ohio, South Dakota and Tennessee appear to have fallen for the NOW/NARAL/Boxer “just one vote” lie. If any of these proposals go through, the Supremes will reaffirm Roe, converting it from the super-precedent it is today into the super-duper pooper scooper precedent Arlen Specter would like it to be. Make no mistake about it: if Roe is revisted by the present Supreme Court, it will be affirmed; the only question is whether it will be reaffirmed by the expected 5-4 margin, or whether John Roberts really meant it when he described the case as “settled law” (unless, of course, he meant it in the sense of “settled until I get my cotton pickin’ hands on it”).

Last weekend, Mrs. X, Baby X and I travelled north into the South, and had the pleasure of meeting the Bear Flag League’s easternmost member, Jon Henke of QandO, along with his lovely wife and their photogenic son. Very nice people - be sure to look them up if you’re ever in the greater Richmond area. Unless, of course, you’re a serial killer / cyberstalker / axe murderer / etc., as most people who use the Internet are. In that case, please leave them alone; look up this guy instead.

Come to think of it, almost everyone we met on that trip was very, very nice. In Richmond, we jaywalked in a really bad way, but the lady who would have run us over under California rules smiled and waved at us, instead. Our tour guide insisted we had no accents, even though we obviously do, and insisted on paying for everything (which reminds me, I owe Jon and the family dinner too if I’m ever out that way again). The sales staff at Cold Stone Creamery apologized for the rude behavior of sales staff at another Cold Stone back in California. Even the stewardesses flight attendants were nice, for cryin’ out loud. What’s up with that? Is there something about the South that makes everyone unusually nice, or are the rest of us living in asshole-land?

Has anyone caught a brand name on any of the cellular phones they use on 24? I want one of those. They always connect in a fraction of the time it takes me, and they never drop a call unless a building blows up, or worse. Besides, anything regularly featured in a show that makes liberals cry, can’t be all bad.

If you’re like me, you may have wondered why “all” (but not quite all) the radio and TV stations in the west have call letters beginning with K, and “all” (but again, not quite all) the radio and TV stations in the east have a W, and those in between can’t seem to make up their mind. If you’re geeky enough to care about this stuff, this site is for you. My favorite is KTGG in Spring Arbor, Michigan, which reportedly got its K because some boob at the FCC thought “MI” stood for Missouri.

The Democrat/Spectre ploy to delay the Alito hearings long enough to let Justice O’Connor issue one more pro-abortion ruling appears to have backfired. Rather than being the fifth vote to rule that the challenged New Hampshire law violated the Abortion Amendment, as the pro-abortion zealots hoped Justice O’Connor would, she instead penned a unanimous decision kicking the case back down to the First Circuit on a technicality. The case will end up back before the Supreme Court, eventually, but by then Justice O’Connor will be long gone. Neener.
