They’re Not Just for Flippin’ Birdies Anymore

If you’ve ever lost the use of your middle finger, you can almost understand why so many people fell for this transparent joke. Almost.

I heard that much more plausibly with the following changes, ages ago:

    1) No reference to “pluck yew”, which is obviously silly.

    2) As the British insulting gesture with the first and middle fingers spread, upright, not the middle finger itself.

That makes more sense both because, as the Snopes people say, bird-flipping dates back to Rome, and because you use BOTH fingers to operate a bow (and in a pinch you might be able to use first and ring, or middle and ring, but not just one in any case).
