Ah, enlightenment. I knew it was a trick question of some kind but obviously couldn’t tell where the trick came in. Thanks.

I have shot very occasionally and enjoy it quite a bit, but as stated, don’t know details. I think the gun I liked best the last time I shot was a 22/45 Ruger.

The one on the left is the Mini-14. There are 30 round detachable magazines available for it. It fires the .223 cartridge.

The one on the right is an AR-15 receiver. There are 30 round detachable magazines available for it. It fires the .223 cartridge.

One is not newer or more powerful than the other.

the one on the left looks like a south Texas coyote tamer (a.k.a Mini 14), although it has better wood than mine. The one on the right looks like a hunk of metal. My, oh my, how the people of that giant cereal bowl (full of nuts, fruits and flakes) freak out about the smallest things.

The complete rifle appears to be a Ruger Mini-14 which would be ‘ordinary’.

The small part looks like the lower receiver for an AR-15 or Bushmaster and would have been illegal for a time in part due to the fact that it would accept a pistol grip.

**DISCLAIMER** I purport to know nothing about guns except to point them downrange and put my headphones on before I shoot and pick up my brass.

It sort of looks like you put a magazine from the one on the right up next to the one on the left. The one on the left looks like a very old gun. The fact that the one on the right is probably new and powerful and is obviously very concealable … makes it the “ordinary rifle anyone can own,” out of sheer contrariness of crazy gun laws?
