Ah, that explains why the name sounded semi-familiar. Does it have a range open to the public?

IIRC, Quantico is about 45 minutes south of DC. It's a USMC base.

One of the reasons many indoor ranges don't allow 5.56 is that the bullets have a nasty tendency to crater the backstop. The facility I shoot at has a 500m silhouette range, and they don't allow .224" caliber centerfire on that range - too much target damage. The minimum allowable caliber is 6mm. (No belted magnums, either.)

The NRA indoor range takes calibers up to .460 Weatherby Magnum.

Conversely, the Quantico range sometimes limits us to 5.56, when it can clearly handle much larger calibers.

Most of the indoor ranges around here (Northern VA) don't really like centerfire rifle much. (other than that one in Woodbridge where they'll let you shoot a .50 BMG. Why you would want to shoot one on a 25 yard indoor range, I'll never know. But you can) Or they make you use their frangible .223 at about a buck a pop.
