I wasn’t going to announce this just yet, but seeing as my motorcycle seems to be overtaking this discussion, it bears noting that I (1) was 32 when I got my motorcycle, and (2) am considering selling it now.

Thus, for purpose of crisis analysis, assume I have no motorcycle.

Nk: you’re right, any guy who’s on the high side of 35 who has a motorcycle is already fully engaged in crisis mode and doesn’t need to compound things by getting a sportscar.

Steve Sturm, Comment #11, forgive me if I’m sandbagging you. My Altima is the same exact beautiful, cherry-red color as my ’84 HD Sportster. True, I cannot pull away in second gear but I think it corners a lot better. (BTW: The 4-cylinder is a 2.5L not a 2.0L as I posted above.) I assume Xrlq owns a motorcycle from his question, a while ago, whether Virginia permits lane splitting. If you have a motorcycle, why would you want a sports-car? My Sportster could have out-accelerated any Corvette and my Z1 or Gpz900 could have run circles around it.

As to the vehicle, my wife and I have have on of the newer Chevy Malibus and we’re quite happy with it. And my wife was insisting on a Camry, when she drove the Malibu she prefered it, that and it was $5,000 cheaper for the same options.

you’re buying/getting a sedan? very family of you. X, a guy coming up on a midlife is not going to be happy with a sedan, nk’s endorsement of the Altima notwithstanding. Go ahead and get the crisis car now and get it out of the way. And a bonus of getting it now, ahead of the onset of the crisis, is that it will give you plausible deniability that you’re having a crisis… “what me, having a crisis? I’ve had this car for years”.

Go get yourself a huge SUV (great deals on Hummer H2s, I’m told, or a sleek little roadster, a foreign import that costs as much as you make in two years, or, perhaps the car for everyguy with a midlife crisis on the way, a Corvette.

Very cute! Thanks for the pointer, and congrats on the imminent addition! And I’ve always thought that 3.0 implies a third generation and a second kid should be more on the order of 2.1.0 or something, but that does have the downside of making kid #2 feel like he’s an offshoot of kid #1. Know the sex yet? Because, my stars, with both an older brother and a dad possessed of guns and pit bulls, your poor prospective daughter will never have a date.

Happy birthday. I had the loaded Jeep Cherokee Sport (not the Grand Cherokee) for 12 years and about 125,000 miles and was very happy with it. I traded it in for a Nissan Altima and am delirious with it. It feels like a big car, very smooth and comfortable. Sits 5 easily, great leg and headroom (I’m 6’2″), very big trunk. You can get it with the 2.0 four cylinder (average 24 mpg) or the 3.5 V6 which is more power than you’ll ever need unless you’re towing. It’s worth the trouble to look at it. I rented the new Impala prior to buying the Altima. The Altima is the better car. Nice paint options too.
