Well, substitute 7th grade science teachers didn't get there by topping their class at Cal Tech.

I remember one guy who decided to show the class how sodium reacted with water by dropping about 2 ounces of it into a (thankfully unpopulated) aquarium.

My question is whether the regular classroom teacher put this lesson in the day's plans. If so, he or she should probably be fired too. Any teacher worth a salt knows that you are taking a risk with a sub. Some of them are just plain nuts!

Hell, when I was in Junior High in the late 80s out biology teacher lamented that she couldn't give everyone a lancet and draw a drop of blood because of health issues, and that was almost 20 years ago.

She said it was great in the old days, all the students had thier own razors, there was blood flying and shooting everywhere, she had lots of fun smearing shoe polish around the lenses of all the microscopes. (Okay, so she was a little strange. I'm sure she would get along fine here.)
