Blogiversary Endorsments
The Weblog Awards and I go way back, though not necessarily in a good way. Here’s a brief synopsis:
- Three years ago, I was the Best Large Mammal.
- Two years ago, I was a pretty crappy Large Mammal.
- One year ago, I was a Sir Not Appearing In This Film. I also forgot my anniversary and had to be reminded by Mrs. X.
- Zero years ago, I managed to forget my anniversary again, and also managed to forget that there is such a thing as a Weblog Award. My wife reminded me of my anniversary (again), and Patterico and QandO helped with the Weblog Awards.
Now that I have been reminded, below are my recommended votes.
- Best Blog: The Corner at NRO
- Best New Blog:
- Best Individual Blog: Lileks. Who else was I going to pick Glenn Douchewald?!
- Best Humor Blog: Blame Bush. Close seconds: IMAO and Scrappleface.
- Best Comic Strip: Cox and Forkum.
- Best Online Community: Fark. Close second: anything else except the Daily Kotze.
- Besdt Liberal Blog: Bitch Ph.D. I know nothing about it, but it’s a cool name, and it’s not Pandagon.
- Best Conservative Blog: Patterico’s Pontifications. Close second: Mary Katharine Ham.
- Best Centrist Blog: QandO (but since when are they centrist?!)
- Best Media Blog: Newsbusters. Close second: Tammy Bruce.
- Best Technology Blog: No clue. I’ve never heard of any of them except Slashdot, and know next to nothing about it.
- Best Sports Blog: Ditto. I was hoping to find Baseball Crank in there, but no dice. I know, it’s not really a sports blog, and besides, he roots for the wrong team, but still…
- Best Military Blog: Smash. Close seconds: Blackfive and Michael Yon, who may actually be better than Smash, I just don’t read them often enough to know. Sgt. Hook ain’t half bad, either. [No, I'm not suggesting that any of the others are.]
- Best Law Blog: Ya know, you’d really think that the blog that explained why parents and the District of Columbia would be somewhere on this list, but alas, it ain’t. I guess we’ll have to settle for the Volokhs instead. Close second: How Appealing.
- Best Business Blog: Asymmetrical Information.
- Best LGBT: Gay Patriot. Close second: anyone who doesn’t use PC abbreviations like LGBT. Next year, whoever calls {himself a fudgepacker | herself a carpet licker | himself/herself something even cooler I haven’t even thought of yet} will get my vote.
- Best Parenting Blog: No clue. As a relatively new parent, I probably should familiarize myself with these guys but thus far, I haven’t.
- Best Educational Blog: The Education Wonks. Close second: Joanne Jacobs. Everyone else: sorry, I’m sure you haven’t heard of me, either.
- Best Science Blog: Anyone but Deltoid. Can just anyone be a scienceblogger?!
- Best Medical/Health Issues Blog: No clue.
- Best Photo Blog: Ditto.
- Best Culture Blog: Megadittos. Who needs culture? This is America!
- Best Diarist: Dunno, I lean toward Dooce, on the theory anyone who can make his/her name into a verb can’t be all bad. But see, Fisk, Robert.
- Best Gossip Blog: Perez Hilton. If it weren’t for this guy, would anyone know for sure that Brit Spears is really a girl and Bill Maher is an asshole? I know, we “knew” that all along, but did we really know?
- Best Music Blog: No clue. I didn’t even know David Gilmour had a blog. I really need to get out more. On second thought, no, I don’t, at least not “out” on the Internet. I spend too much time there as it is.
- Best Podcast: No clue. I’m probably one of only three people on the planet who owns neither an Ipod nor a cast.
- Best Video Blog: Hot Air. Yeah, I’ve bagged on them now and again, but that’s nibbling at the margins. As video-heavy blogs go, they’re head and shoulders above the rest.
- Video of the Year: Mary Katharine Ham: Get Out the Vote. If only a few more lonely guys had seen it in time for the vote that really counted, Black Tuesday might not have been such a dark day after all.
- Best Canadian Blog: Small dead animals. Also nominate for worst Canadian blog name, though I suppose anyone who calls himself Xrlq is in a lousy position to talk.
- Best UK Blog: Samizdata.
- Best European (Non-UK) Blog: Davids Medienkritik
- Best Asian Blog: No clue.
- Best Middle East or Africa Blog: Iraq the Model
- Best Australia or New Zealand Blog: Tim Blair
- Best Latino, Caribbean or South American Blog:
- Best of the Top 150 Just One Minute. Close second: MY Vast Right Wing Conspiracy
- Best of 251-500 Blogs: Flopping Aces
- Best of 501-1000: Darleen’s Place
- Best of 1001-1750: Boi From Troy
- Best of 1751-2500: The Queen of All Evil
- Best of 2501-3500: Colossus of Rhodey. Close second: Cobb.
- Best of 3501-5000: No clue. Never heard of any of these guys. If you have, enlighten me.
- Best of 5001-6750: Ditto.
- Best of 6751-8750: A Keyboard and a .45. Close second: Lonewacko.
- Best of the Rest: Color me clueless.
No recommendation - I haven’t heard of any of these! Help!

*sniff* waahhh. Oh well, close second sounds good. Or it could be “#1 Loser.” heehee ;-)
Need recs? Here’s my unsolicited opinion for ya:
# Best Science Blog: In the Pipeline or SciGuy. The others are barking moonbat scientists. Angry scientists.
# Best Medical/Health Issues Blog: Brainhell. Give the guy something to smile about, ’cause he may not make it through the year.
# Best Photo Blog: Photos by Seawitch. She’s on “our side.” (Regular blog is Thoughts by Seawitch.)
# Best Culture Blog: If you like FARK, you’ll probably like Tucker Max.
# Best Diarist: Dooce? The poop blog? Feh. Just dot Christina (she’s one of “us” too). She used to be Feisty Repartee. She’s cool.
# Best Gossip Blog: Perez Hilton? Noooo! Agent Bedhead! Jeff Percifield, if he ever comes off hiatus, writes there too, or did–if you’re not otherwise familiar with the blog. Used to be Fistful of Fortnights, but she made it a gossip blog (for people with brains). ;-)
# 3501-5000: CDR Salamander. Milblog. I don’t know the others, either.
No clue here about Sports or Music blogs, either. Tech blogs? I like Shiny Shiny, but it’s oriented towards pink gadgets (as in, geek girls). ;-) If not them, I’d probably pick Engadget. Or Lifehacker, but I can’t remember if they’re in it, and the awards server is fried–er, Farked–right now. ;-)
