Airing of Grievances: I-95
I know I said I was going to quit, but Festivus hasn’t arrived yet so I’m going to indulge myself once more. Whose brilliant idea was it to build one Interstate from Miami to Philadelphia, and another from some nowhere town 45 miles northeast of there to Maine, and assign the same highway number to both? Whoever did that is Sofa King. We Todd did.

Blame those wonderful folks in northern Mercer County and western Somerset County, who were damned if they were going to allow some low-life Interstate through their backyards.
Took me a couple of trips through there to get used to this sort of thing.

It wasn’t supposed to be this way. Those two highways were supposed to connect, but when the Somerset Freeway was cancelled due to local NIMBYs, the missing link was never built. Later efforts met the same fate. With the New Jersey Turnpike connecting Phildelphia to New York anyway, interest in connecting the two 95s hasn’t been very high.

Confusing if you apply logic and are non-NYC-centric.
Everyone here knows there’s only two main routes across NJ - the ‘pike and the GSP! No need for some “I-95″!
