It looks right if you read silently. But try saying “a NYC” out loud a few times and you’ll get the picture.

It only looks right silently if you automatically sub in your head “New York City” for “NYC.” Which apparently is what the authors of the poster do. :P Doesn’t make it right.

Heh. I guess I’ve just gotten used to people talking about “a URL,” which seems wrong to me because I pronounce it as a word.
If it’s not supposed to be pronounced as a word it should have periods between the letters. Which is why I have very little problem with “the UN.”
