Jeff, the only reason I make the distinction is that I don't think Obama has any realistic expectation of winning the White House in 2008. But I think he does aspire and expect to win the presidency eventually.

Either his handlers are True Believers or he keeps going off-script. You know, extempore and homespun, like Reagan or something. Only in his case it's more "something."

I don't think it's hurting him that much. I think he's dead on with his target audience and he was never going to get the rest of us on board anyway. It remains to be seen, if he makes it out of the primary, how many are "target audience" and how many are "the rest of us." My best friend styles herself a moderate liberal (my words), but she's in the tank for Obama and I doubt any of this stuff is changing her mind. There are simply too many people to whom squidginess about cooperation, consensus, and the rest of it are just Carrots of Unusual Size, not to be resisted.

Wulf: potato, potahto.

Kevin: who are they?

Anwyn (who isn't a man): I suppose it's possible the guy is that deluded, but if he is, why doesn't he have handlers to keep him from saying the crazy stuff he keeps saying?

That may be how it'll end up in hindsight, but if you're saying he himself is not convinced he can be elected president, I think you're mistaken.
