Stuff I Don’t Get
Why do elevators display the letters “EZ” instead of a floor number when they zip past the floors they don’t stop on? Do the letters stand for something, like maybe “extra zippy?” Or do they market to people who are so dumb that it’s really hard to ride on an elevator that stops on floors you might not want to get off on?

I happen to build elevators for a living, and I believe that the issue is a faulty “P.I.” (Position Indicator) control board (or system, they are sometimes modular “Add on” units). Most likely the “EZ” that you are seeing is a fault code that can be diagnosed by an elevator technician, or the device cannot properly process the information being sent to it from the controller so it sets a default display.
The solution is to complain to the building owner that it is not displaying properly, and they should call their contracted elevator service company to address the issue. If they don’t have one, complain until they get one.
An elevator is the World’s safest means of getting from point “A” to point “B” (yes it’s safer than walking on your own two feet)… Provided that it’s properly maintained.
Hope this helped.
