They’ve Got … Two Four Tickets to Wine-A-Fest

Filed under:   by Xrlq @ 6:19 pm

Don’t know if any Triad residents read this blog, but if you do and you are a wino, be sure to call WSJS for Monday morning’s Time Tunnel Challenge to win 4 tickets to the NC Wine Festival. I’m about 90% certain that the “correct” (winning) answer is 1978, the year the Camp David Accords were signed. The other 10% says the “correct” answer is 1977, the year Eddie Money’s first album, containing “Two Tickets to Paradise,” was released. No one came anywhere close to the right year today, so it carries over until Monday and doubles the prize.

Seeing as I recognized one clue that unambiguously traces back to 1977 and another that unambiguously traces back to 1978, you may be curious as to why I’m so confident that 1978, rather than 1977, is the “correct” answer. After all, the worst ex-President in history did take office in 1977, and surely he made some public statements relating to the forthcoming accords in advance of 1978, right? Perhaps so, but the show seems to have more of a precedent for assigning the wrong year to songs than to political events. At least twice since I began listening and participating last fall, they’ve played Tom Petty’s “Free Fallin’” as a clue for 1990 rather than 1989, when Full Moon Fever was released. So it wouldn’t suprise me if they simply screwed up and assigned the song the year they first started paying attention to it, rather than the year it came out. Also, per Wikipedia the single of “Two Tickets to Paradise” was not released until 1978, so if the clue was meant to refer to the single rather than the album, 1978 is the correct year after all.

Why am I blogging this, you ask? Because I won myself last week and am disqualified from winning until 30 days have run. Since I can’t win this one myself, I figure I might as well give my readers a leg up instead. Have fun at the wine fest, and maybe I’ll see you there if they’re still handing those out on the 23rd.

Lastly, a note to Greg, the other serial winner who won tix earlier this week and told Brian Freeman the exact date on which he planned to win the next pair: good luck, buddy. We’re not really in competition, as I plan to win mine a week before you qualify to win yours. Unless, of course, they come up with some new prize for whoever wins the game the most times, in that case I’m craaaashing your heeeead.
