I'm often at odds with the methods of same-sex marriage advocates (for example, over-relying on the courts), even when I support their cause. That said, I predict that in less than 20 years, most Americans will look at same-sex marriage bans in pretty much the same way most of us today look at interracial marriage bans of a few decades ago.

If gay marriage is invalid in CA, it's invalid in CA. The reasonable thing to do, IMNSHO, would be for the Legislature to pass an urgency law conferring domestic partner status on all same sex couples who were married before Prop 8 passed.

One problem is what to do about the 18,000 recent gay marriages "solemnized" under the State Supreme Court ruling?

I think letting them stand is fair but since there can be no new gay marriages there should be no new gay DIVORCES either.

Welcome to the world of heterosexual misery!
