Change They Need
I recently griped about North Carolina’s stupid, fascist, unenforceable and officially unconstitutional sodomy law, but there’s no reason to single out NC except that I happen to live there. Other states deserving this same dishonorable mention include Alabama (Ala. Code 13A-6-65(a)(3)), Idaho (I.C. § 18-6605), Kansas (KSA § 21-3505), Louisiana (R.S. 14:89), Massachusetts (MGL Ch. 272 § 34), Michigan (MCL § 750-158), Mississippi (Miss. Code § 97-29-59), Oklahoma ( Okla. Stat. § 21-886), South Carolina (SCCL 15-16-120), Texas (Tex. Pen. Code § 21.06), Utah (UCA § 76-5-403) and Virginia (Va. Code § 18.2-361). Yes, I did say Massachusetts. Yes, that Massachusetts. The one commonwealth where gays have a right to marry, but any attempt to consummate that marriage is deemed “abominable,” “detestable,” and punishable by 20 years’ imprisonment.
Speaking of Pyrrhic victories, the Goodridges, who scored all Massachusetts gays the right to platonic marriage, are now exercising their newly won right to gay divorce. Isn’t that special?
