Reason™ vs. Reason Re-Re-Redux
Just in case I needed reminding as to why I recently allowed my 14-year subscription to Reason to lapse, I read a recent Hit and Run entry by Julian Sanchez decrying the fact that ICE border agents are finally receiving the authority to, um, enforce the borders. That much was to be expected, given Reason’s long-standing idiocy surrounding the issue of border controls in general, and given Sanchez’s crypto-idiocy in particular. Also to be expected was a comment by Lonewacko that addressed the issue Julian had raised, while also providing five links to four sites, including his own. Now for the unexpected (and, IMO, unacceptable) part:
Hey Lonewacko, speaking of freeloaders coming in to take advantage of the free services [sic, he wasn't]: If you’re going to turn every Reason comments thread into a multilink promo for your own site, buy a fucking ad already.

I don’t know about you, but that sure makes me want to go out and buy an ad. Sheesh.
UPDATE: Patterico added a comment to annoy Cavanaugh, so I thought maybe I should too. I’ve reproduced both comments below.
I noticed some of you guys talking about immigration. I noticed a really good post about immigration recently, here.
By the way, Cavanaugh — you desperate for ads or something?

And I noticed a really good post about blogger/journalists who cry like little girls when their comment sections evolve into anything other than the echo chambers they were intended to be. Yes, Cavanaugh, I did just link to my own site. No, I’m not going to buy a fucking ad, nor am I going to renew my fucking subscription, which had until now remained uninterrupted since 19 fucking 90. Nor will I encourage any of my fucking friends or fucking colleagues (most of whom lean fucking libertarian) to read your fucking magazine or the online fucking version, until/unless Virginia fucking Postrel returns and half of today’s fucking staff doesn’t.Comment by: Xrlq at August 15, 2004 02:35 PM

Me too on letting my Reason subscription lapse. I sure do miss Virginia’s leadership. I also miss many of their old contributors. When was Walter Olson’s last piece?

Great hornytoads, I’m every so glad I let mine expire as well. Shark jumping idiots!

I let mine expire a decade or more ago, after subscribing since 1981.

Thanks for noting that, X. I went and left them a comment that I hope they will find annoying.

They should, but just in case that doesn’t annoy them enough, I’ve added one of my own. Both comments have been added to this entry, as well.

Sunday Wanderings
Before I go make supper and settle in front of gymnastics and swimming for the evening, I thought I’d wander around and sow a few links about the blogosphere.

XRLQ is having way too much fun with ad-starved Tim Cavanaugh’s breakdown [...]
