Take a Walk on the Blog Side
Haven’t done a round-up in a while, so here goes:
- Even while sleeping on the job, Patterico does a fine job exposing Jeralyn Merritt as the political hack that she is.
- He didn’t need any help in this endeavor, but Armed Liberal and I provided some, anyway.
- Meanwhile, The Other Xrlq, who three days after April Fool’s Day declared Talk Left a “class act,” still lists that
e-ragdistinguished weblog as a “Must Read.” Of course, he also lists my blog under that category, so I shan’t complain too loudly. - In response to the above-referenced dustup, our latest resident troll and self-proclaimed Mensa nerd, Conley Gwinn, has been treating Patterico’s and my readers to his wit, wisdom, etc. Emphasis on etc.
Meanwhile, on other fronts:
- Justene Adamec argues that the best defense against a Clinton Presidency in ‘08 is a good offense in ‘06.
- Baldilocks argues that the good guys in Iraq aren’t the only ones whose mission is not accomplished.
- Kim du Toit argues passionately against a constitutional amendment that would allow Kim du Toit to run for President.
- Christmas is more than a month away, but Michele Catalano is already busy roasting chestnuts on an open
fireblog. - Boi From Troy takes umbrage at the James Carville crack that didn’t involve an egg.
- Kevin Roderick offers a heading that sounds dirty but isn’t.
- Hugo Schwyzer is appalled by an allegedly perverse use of the words “appalling” and “perverted.”
- The Queen declares George W. Bush a racist, sexist poopy-head for naming Condoleeza Rice as the new Secretary of State.
- Frank J. offers some sage post-election advice for Democrats, and a cool pull quote he stole from Spoons.
- Spoons, in turn, is on vacation with a bunch of really cool people, and is seriously rubbing it in.

“The only bad publicity is NO publicity.”

XRLQ: your retreat into “bad” publicity, together with your persistence in name-calling, clearly symptomatic of that fear of thinking for which I have diagnosed you earlier. I remain ready to assist you whenever you wish to attempt to become whole; or to pursue discourse with you whenever you can rise to rebuttal, refutation, or even advancement of your OWN argument. I am willing, even to remain “your” troll, in the belief that whatever the political agenda(s) of the reader, the contrast of reason with childishness will eventually lead to your outright surrender. (Patterico, I’m not so sure about: seems to desire a flame-war, but hopes to find an easier target?)

I’ve known a few of those over the years. My experience has been that Mensa is an organization for people who need to belong to an organization for people to believe that they’re intelligent. Of course, YMMV.
My favorite Mensa story goes back a number of years to a discussion at the place I was working at the time. My then-boss was bragging about how the chap he had just hired was a member of Mensa in response to which one of the other employees (a blunt, coarse, dese-dem-dose-type ethnic Chicagoan) pulled out his Mensa card.

…And your combined points re: Talkleft got results. The blog has been removed from Winds of Change.NET’s blogroll (replaced by J.P. Barlow’s blog, and also Samizdata).
This kind of behaviour is utterly incompatible with their listing under the “Liberty” designation, or indeed any other serious designation on a serious blogroll. Squishing trolls is one thing. This is something rather more serious, and it’s offensive by any decent standard.
