UPDATE: Guess the joke’s on me; by the time we actually did switch to summer time the snow was gone, and the heat has been sweltering ever since. Now if our Congresscritters can just persuade Mr. Sun to get up an hour earlier…

Fishy Chips

There has to be an innocent explanation for this. Maybe the saying “you are what you eat” is literally true, and Vivian Lieberman just liked to eat a lot of potato chips? Or perhaps some absent-minded mausoleum worker is scratching his head right now and thinking “Aha! I knew those potato chips tasted a bit stale…” Or maybe, just maybe, Vivian Lieberman really was all that and a bag of chips.

Liveblogging the Storm

I just looked out the front window here in Rancho Santa Margarita, and saw my neighbor’s copy of the Dog Trainer sailing down the road at at least 5 mph. I estimate that by 6:00 p.m. it should end up in Laguna Beach, thereby raising the average IQs of both cities.

Mudslides and Tsunamis

Guys, I know that what happened in La Conchita was terrible, but please, please spare us the tortured comparisons to the Boxing Day tsunami. The tsunami killed 200,000 innocent people who had no way of knowing a tsunami was on the horizon, and would have had mere minutes to escape in time if they had. The mudslides killed roughly a dozen people, most of whom were adults who should have known better than to stay in an area well-known for its mudslides when it had been raining nonstop for almost three weeks straight. Like Spoons, I feel terrible for the children who died, but let’s face it: the adults knew what they were getting into. If stating the obvious is blaming the victim, so be it. That doesn’t mean that it’s wrong.
